Magic Minute

During this time of uncertainty, it’s important to give yourself permission to embrace a moment of stillness and to focus on the positive. 

Our “Magic Minute” is one way you can teach your family to take some time to be still and to focus on positive thoughts. Taking the time to be “mindful” can help us feel better emotionally and physically. 

How to play:

  1. Choose a comfortable and quiet place in your home.
  2. Turn on some soothing music. 
  3. Lie on your back, knees bent, feet flat on the floor, hands relaxed with palms flat on the floor.
  4. Invite family members to close their eyes. Eyes can remain open if preferred.
  5. Ask family members to focus on their breathing. Take a deep breath, in through your nose and out through your mouth. Repeat a few times.
  6. Think of something that makes you happy - imagine a place, event in your life, a friend. 
  7. Continue to breathe.
  8. Wiggle toes gently, feel the support of your back on the floor.
  9. Keep thinking of what makes you happy. Erase all other thoughts from your mind. 
  10. After about a minute, open eyes and take a few seconds to slowly sit up.
  11. Invite family members to share how they felt during the Magic Minute. 
  12. Invite family members to share things that make them happy or things they are grateful for.
