Active Play for All at Summer Camp!

Every summer, more than 260,000 children in Quebec attend summer camps. Camps are often synonymous with fun, and a great way to make memories with friends. It's also an opportunity to get moving and discover a variety of physical activities.

Numerous studies show the benefits of regular physical activity for children. Attending a summer camp undoubtedly contributes to the adoption of a healthy, active lifestyle. Summer camps are great places to try out different physical activities, and to develop and reinforce fundamental movement (motor) skills while having fun.

Skipping, Throwing, Balancing: Developing Physical Literacy at Camp This Summer

Just like learning to write and count, it's important to learn to move well in order to develop the confidence and motivation needed to be active for life. Physical literacy should be an integral part of the planning of activities offered to campers, as well as during the training provided to summer camp leaders. By encouraging camp leaders to incorporate variations into the activities they offer, while ensuring that the progress they make is adapted to the children, we can all contribute to developing environments conducive to the adoption of a healthy, active lifestyle for all children.
