Champions for Life Foundation Annual Report 2018-2019

This Annual Report covers the progress of the Champions for Life Foundation between July 2018 and June 2019. The Champions for Life Foundation is dedicated to helping children through their families, schools and communities, to develop their physical literacy. We design tools, resources, and programs that promote physical literacy and help children acquire the necessary fundamental movement skills to play and be active throughout their lives.

We are thankful for our dedicated staff and the Board of Directors for their time, energy, and steadfast commitment throughout the year. We are also grateful to the Montreal Canadiens Children's Foundation, and all our partners who have supported us in fulfilling our vision, mission, and goals.

Our growing impact

In 2018-2019 our program partnered with 88 schools, in 18 school boards, across 12 regions in the province of Québec. This represents a 17% growth over the 2017-2018 school year, and we're proud that our physical literacy program, tools, and resources have impacted the lives of over 5,480 children. Beyond having more schools and children in the program, our growth has come in the form of maturity in our operations and positive word of mouth for our relatively young foundation.

Renewed support from our partners

We are delighted to announce that the Montreal Canadiens Children's Foundation is renewing its commitment to being our official Lead Partner for the next three years. Together, we will continue to help at-risk children in low socioeconomic schools, across the province of Québec, to develop their physical literacy and build their confidence. We express our partnership through our shared mission, which we call "LEADING THE WAY TO LEARN AND PLAY."

We would also like to thank our official Program Partner, Power Corporation of Canada, our Community Partners, and our many donors for their continued support. Your generous support grants us the opportunity to focus on improving the quality of our program while expanding on the development, scope and reach of our innovative tools and resources.

Redesigned program experience

At the beginning of the year, with the assistance of Laval University professors Valérie Michaud and Benoît Tremblay, we explored how to improve the Champions for Life program experience. As a result, we embarked on a significant program redesign that will be the catalyst for many new initiatives that will positively impact our participants and leaders in the years to follow.

Building advocacy

We are fiercely committed to elevating physical literacy to a level playing field with literacy and numeracy, treated with equal importance in our schools and at home. By exposing children, ages 5 to 8 years, to increased opportunities to learn physical literacy, we will contribute to reversing negative health trends for children in Canada.

In our second annual report, you will discover a more detailed summary of this year's achievements and milestones. We have never been so confident, optimistic and motivated to forge ahead as we are today.
