How to play:

  1. Divide children into teams of 3 or 4 and have teams spread out around the perimeter of the activity space.
  2. Explain to the children that the goal of the game is to build a snow fort using the equipment in the center of the activity space.
  3. Explain that on your start signal, children are to take turns (one child per team at a time) and run to the pile of equipment, pick up one piece of equipment and return it to their team.
  4. Once they return to their team the next child in line runs to get another piece of equipment.
  5. After a set amount of time or when each child has had 2-3 turns to pick up equipment, signal to teams that it is time to stop picking up items and time to start creating their snow forts.
  6. After a set amount of time, have children walk around and look at all the different snow forts that have been created.
  7. Children return all items to the centre of the activity space when finished.

Variations:

  • Play outside in the snow!
  • Repeat activity using a different locomotion movements to pick up equipment (e.g. galloping, skipping, hopping).
