Yoga Jenga

Transform a regular JENGA game into an active family challenge!

Family members of all ages love this activity challenge as it gives them the opportunity to play a game that they're already familiar with. They can learn and practice yoga poses, while working together and having lots of fun.

How to play

  1. Have your family brainstorm several yoga poses (e.g. boat, plank, side plank, bridge, dog pointer, warrior, airplane, etc.).
  2. Write the poses on a piece of masking tape or sticker label and tape to JENGA blocks. Or, if you are really committed to playing this game often, go ahead and write the names of poses on the blocks in a permanent marker. NOTE: not all playing blocks need to have a pose written on them.
  3. Set up the tower and play the game as usual. Each player takes a turn carefully drawing out one block at a time, while being careful not to let the tower fall.
  4. If a block that is pulled has a yoga pose on it, the player must read aloud the pose and demonstrate it. Everyone then practices the yoga pose and has to hold that specific yoga move for 15 seconds.
  5. The player then places the block on to the top of the tower.
  6. If the tower falls, everyone must jog on the spot for a period of time (e.g. 30 seconds).

Add these variations

  • You can use popsicle stick and play "pick up sticks" rather than build a tower.
  • Use strictly animal poses.
  • Create challenging exercises other than yoga poses to work other aspects of fundamental movement skills such as throwing, jumping, hopping, kicking, and catching.
